SWPBS
Sacred Heart is excited to be implementing School-wide Positive Behaviour Support; it is an evidence-based framework for schools to create a positive school climate, a culture of student competence and an open, responsive management system for all school community members.
Instead of using many different behaviour management strategies, a consistent system of expectations for all students within our school is implemented in all areas including classrooms and other settings such as in the pool, the playground and on the buses.
Our students know these expectations as our school rules:
- Be Respectful
- Be Safe
- Be Responsible
SWPBS counteracts the “wait-to-fail” model of other frameworks and moves schools to a prevention-based approach. SWPBS has demonstrated:
- Reduced problem behaviour
- Increased academic performance
- Improved perception of safety
- Reduced bullying behaviours
- Increased time for instructional leadership
- Reduced staff turnover
- Improved social-emotional competence
- Increased positive school climate and culture
